Take a look at some of our more unique projects, each custom designed with care to meet a specal need.
Doggy Deck Ramp: Steps were posing a challenge for the homeowner's beloved dog, so we designed and built a custom dog ramp from the deck to the enclosed yard. After a few treats for training, Remy was once again fully independent. And with Trex Transcend decking and PVC railings, it's completely maintenance free.
Art Studio/Rec Room Upgrade: This project started with a request to replace some sagging and discolored acoustic ceiling tiles and replace the large fluorescent light fixtures with compact and efficient recessed LED fixtures. However, upon removing the old tiles we discovered that sections of the heating/cooling ductwork were badly rusted out. Step 1 was to cut out and replace the compromised ductwork. (We also discovered and eliminated the source of the strange squeaking noise whenever the heating/AC system was running. Unknown to the current homeowner, a decades-old built-in humidifier was hidden by the suspended ceiling. While it was completely non-functional, the squeaky cylinder would still turn every time the air blew across it!) Completing the new ceiling and lighting provided a clean, attractive and functional multipurpose space. Finally, dimmer switches were added to easily adapt the lighting from work mode to relaxation mode.
A new Larson storm door, securely installed to meet the demands of year-round ocean-front living.
This pre-existing Anderson storm had to be reversed to withstand the high winds coming off the ocean in winter.
Door Frame Replacement: This project required reconstructing the frame and threshold for an exterior door, re-using the existing steel door.
Adding a second handrail to the basement stairs in this Metrowest antique required first shoring up the badly eroded staircase itself. Once that was done, a new post was added to the support the new railing, which had been stained to match the hand-worn patina of the original railing.
In-Unit Laundry: Laundry Day was always a challenge for residents of the 2nd floor apartment in this 100-year-old 2-family house. It involved multiple trips up and down two long, narrow flights of stairs to the dusty, dimly lit basement. The homeowner wanted to upgrade the apartment with an in-unit laundry. This was accomplished by replacing the lower cabinet in a walk-through pantry with high-end, compact Miele washer and dryer, a stainless-steel washer pan, and all new electrical and plumbing services.
Classroom Cabinetry: With all of the wear and tear that a 100-student pre-school/day care facility can generate, it was time for this classroom's cabinetry to be replaced. Out with the old vinyl-clad, particle-board cabinets and Formica countertop. In with new hardwood cabinets and a granite countertop. And it needed to be done pronto during the school's brief holiday shut-down period!
Laundry Room Cabinet and Countertop: Conversion of a back hall to a 1st floor laundry room was finally completed by the installation of hardwood cabinets (upper and lower) from Norfolk Kitchen and Bath. A butcher block countertop was custom fit and finished with 5 coats of tung oil for a resilient, high-gloss finish. (Note: matching upper cabinet is not shown in the attached photo.)
Aging-in-Place necessitated the addition of custom hardwood banisters to this split-level entryway.
The open stairwell from the living room to the lower level no longer met the homeowner's noise control and privacy needs, so the stairwell was enclosed to fit seamlessly into the existing walls, and a soundproof door was installed.
